The Carson High School football team took care of business in its regular season finale game.

Carson took a 35-0 lead at half before putting up a 42-6 final.

The Senators, which had already secured the No. 2 seed in the Class 4A North regional playoffs, will be at home next Friday in the first round, taking on No. 3 Reno.

The Huskies defeated North Valleys, 42-0, in their final regular season game to set up the rematch.

Friday’s first round playoff game is set for 7 p.m. at Carson High School.

SCORING PLAYS

With 25 seniors on this season’s team, Carson High head coach Steven Nelms got a chance to get a few of them into the end zone.

The royal blue and white got the scoring started quickly as senior Tyler Silsby used a quick pass to senior Zack Eaton, who went the rest of the way to give Carson a 7-0 lead.

With 4:32 left in the first quarter, senior Justin Gonzalez broke free for roughly a 50-yard rushing touchdown to double the Senators’ lead, 14-0.

Carson senior Johnathan Alvarado was the next Senator to find the end zone as he capitalized on short field for a rushing touchdown.

Senior Cruz Gonzalez pulled down another interception for the Senators, which set up a second rushing touchdown for Gonzalez from 25 yards out.

Gonzalez’s second score gave Carson a 28-0 lead with 11:09 left to go in the first half.

Santino Ferretti, a senior, got his number called and made it count, scoring six points on a long rushing touchdown.

Carson added on one more score in the second half as junior Eli Gonzalez scored to give the Senators a 42-0 lead in the third quarter.

Postgame Nelms wanted to thank his seniors for their efforts and their trust in a new leader.

“They have been great. … It’s really hard as a senior to come in with a new head coach, brand new offense, brand new defense, … and brand new expectations. Those guys are the foundation of what we are trying to build here. They’ve bought in. I couldn’t be more proud of them and I wish I had a little more time with them.”
