Nevada Appeal: Carson football dismantles Hug

Carson High School football is now 2-0 in Class 4A North Sierra League play after declawing the Hug Hawks, 49-6, Friday night.

The Senators took advantage of a packed stadium for Friday night’s homecoming contest and scored on the first offensive play from scrimmage.

After stopping Hug’s opening drive on fourth down, Justin Gonzalez got his number called and bolted 83 yards for a touchdown to give Carson a 7-0 lead with 8:05 to go in the opening quarter.

The Hawks went three-and-out and after one Carson touchdown was called back, Gonzalez punched in his second score of the quarter on a 9-yard pitch to the far sideline.

The 14-0 lead quickly turned to 21-0 after Tyler Silsby found Zack Eaton for a catch down the sideline.

Eaton broke free from one tackler and deked another as he ran 63 yards for the receiving touchdown.

It was Johnathan Alvarado’s turn on the next series as the senior broke loose on a 33-yard rushing touchdown play, featuring two broken tackles and a spin move that left two Hawk defenders in each other’s lap.

Carson took the 28-0 lead into halftime and Eaton opened the second half with a kickoff return touchdown to immediately fire up the home crowd.

Eaton’s kick-six made it 35-0 Senators, but Carson wasn’t done.

Santino Ferretti made a trip to the end zone for another Senator touchdown as did Robert Newton.

“I thought the kids played a quality football game,” said Carson head coach Steven Nelms. “We got a lot of guys some playing time and I think the kids were excited they got the victory.”
